Association of Home Builders know that Ken Ford doesn't belong on
the Pacifica Board. A bus will be leaving from New York City and
will return in the evening.
Ken Ford was promoted to the position of Vice Chair in March 2000
to replace David Acosta, who succeeded Mary Berry as Chair. Although
Ford's term on the Board has expired, he retains his seat
illegitimately and in direct violation of Pacifica's by-laws. He
supports and participates in the renegade actions of the current
governing board, saying the Pacifica network's mission is outdated
and "we are a corporation...we have to operate as a business."
Ken Ford created a position for himself (Emergency Response
Chair) at the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB), the
nation's most powerful builders' lobby.
The NAHB claims the third largest trade lobbying group in the
country, which raises over 2 million dollars each election cycle and
uses its considerable resources to fight the Americans With
Disabilities Act, the Fair Housing Act and its access guidelines -
and fair housing compliance in general. According to the Ragged
Edge, a disability rights magazine, "NAHB has systematically worked
to prevent the passage of every and any piece of legislation that
might mandate any access feature in housing (accomodating the
disabled) no matter how minimum."
The NAHB also champions the dismantling of environmental
protections in order to remove corporate actions from public
oversisght. They wrote an amicus brief in support of a government rollback
of wetlands protection and have written against Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water
Act. They quash initiatives for the preservation of
environmentally sensitive areas and open spaceswhile hiding behind a
"greencover" Public Relations campaign and "environmentally
friendly" lesson programs for grade school children that promotes
the corporate agenda and undermines environmental education.
WHY IS AN NAHB STAFFER ON THE PACIFICA BOARD??
TELL KEN FORD AND THE NAHB THAT AN EXECUTIVE WHO:
- Champions the Development Industry
- Chooses environmental degradation over stewardship
- Supports segregation of disabled over accessible housing
- Promotes disinformation in the media and the classroom
- Thinks the Pacifica mission is outdated and wants corporate
culture
