Dear Friend:

The Campaign to Stop the Corporate Takeover of Pacifica will soon reach a critical stage.

In early May, Pacifica management will launch its Spring fund drive at the five member stations. It is our hope that this drive will turn into a national listener referendum, one that overwhelmingly repudiates the corporate clique that has hijacked our beloved network. That's why I'm extending a personal invitation to you to attend an emergency strategy workshop this Saturday, April 14, 2001. The workshop, organized by our Campaign to Stop the Corporate Takover of Pacifica (aka the Pacifica Campaign), will develop detailed plans to expand the listener boycott of donations that we began in February, and to escalate the pressure campaign on Pacifica board members to resign.

This meeting is predominantly for those in the NYC/WBAI area. We hope to pull together similar conferences in California and Houston. Send an email to if you would like to help organize such a conference. If you have the means to travel on short notice to New York this Saturday, we would be pleased to have you.

We know your time is valuable, but we believe the workshops we have organized will provide you a gold mine of information about the Pacifica crisis. Each participant will receive a manual that has been specially prepared for the conference. We are calling the manual The Pacifica Files. Culled from the best material produced by Pacifica activists during the past five years, the manual provides one of the most comprehensive examinations of the current situation, complete with actual internal Pacifica and Corporation for Public Broadcasting documents, a detailed chronology and list of all the banned and fired workers, and summaries of how the crisis has evolved. Reading it will enable you to understand exactly how the network was taken over, how the internal purges have been systematically conducted, and, most importantly, how we will bring democracy back to the network. But we need you to attend the workshop so you can become a more effective advocate for the movement to take back Pacifica.

When the network's fund drive begins in three weeks, we will need several hundred well-versed volunteer organizers ready to launch a counter-campaign and thus make a serious impact on Pacifica fundraising. Our day-long strategy session will be held in the Soho area of Lower Manhattan, from 9:00 a.m. (sharp) to 2:30 p.m. We begin at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and bagels, and a light lunch will be served. We need you to pre-register, however, so we can get a reasonable estimate of attendance.

Please pre-register today by calling the Pacifica Campaign office at 646-230-9588 or email

In struggle,

Juan Gonzalez

P.S. We are in need of donated FREQUENT FLIER miles. If you have a surplus, please contact us as at soon as possible. Travel expenses limit us considerably, in stark contrast to Pacifica management, who jet around the country at listener expense without care or accountability.
